Some of the best things to do in the sunshine

Finally, we have sunshine! As we are having a lot of really hot days at the moment, I though it was about time that I did a post that describes some of my favourite activities to do during the summer seasons. Staying in definitely isn't on the list!

So, here it goes...

1. Have a picnic.

I love picnics, and I even have my very own picnic basket. A top spot of mine in York is the Museum Gardens - it is a lovely location for a picnic, surrounded by beautiful flowers and squirrels, as well as the lovely river that flows through York. It really is a great place to go to relax in the sun.

2. Go to an outdoor swimming pool.

I recently went to the Lido in Ilkley, which was absolutely packed with it being so hot that day, but it was a great way to spend my day. Outdoor pools are great when it's almost too hot to lay in the sun, as you can keep dipping in the pool. The water here was absolutely freezing though as it wasn't heated at all, but you did get used to it...eventually. The pool was also packed full of kids, so you couldn't avoid getting splashed which was the only downfall. It would have been better if the pool had seperate sections for adults and children to avoid this happening (not to sound like a moaning old woman). Apart from that it was great, with some lovely views of Yorkshire.

3. Visit the beach.

If you live near a beach, then it's not hard at all to make a visit to one. I think we forget that there are some great beaches around England, such as Cornwall, Bournemouth and Great Yarmouth. When I was younger (being from Norfolk), I used to visit Hunstanton and always call in to Sandringham on the way home for a stroll in the woods. Cornwall is somewhere that I would definitely like to visit at some point soon. Even if it's just a tiny beach on the coast, they are great places to visit when the sun's shining.

4. Visit a zoo.

I recently went to Chester Zoo and really enjoyed it. If you fancy something a bit more exciting that relaxing by the pool, then a zoo is a great place to go. You can have a wander around looking at the different animals, and then sit in the sunshine whilst eating an ice cream. They are so much better when the weather is nice too, as you can really enjoy being outdoors. See my recent post here which shows you my trip to the zoo along with a range of photographs.

5. Have a barbecue and simply enjoy your back garden!

This is probably my favourite thing to do, as it's rare that I get the time to do this at the minute. But going back to my parents house and relaxing in the back garden on a hot, summers day is just the best feeling for me. I love the feeling of just forgetting all of my worries, enjoying the sun whilst spending time with my family. I love barbecue food too, which is an added bonus! The image below sums it up...
