A review of my trip to Rovinj, Croatia

The old town of Rovinj

If you've read my recent travel posts on Venice and the Plitvice Lakes, then you'll know that I recently visited Croatia during the month of May. I just wanted to share a few of my photographs from my visit, and also give some tips if you're planning to visit Croatia. The area that I stayed in is called Rovinj, located in Istria.

I stayed specifically at the Hotel Eden, which is a lovely 4* hotel nestled away on the coast and in a quiet area surrounded by a lot of nature - hundreds of pine trees and the most beautiful cliffs. The hotel location was perfect, as it was only a 10 minute walk to the centre of Rovinj (pictured above), and it was away from all of the hustle and bustle! There are a few other hotels next to this one which are slightly more grand, both being 5*, so if you prefer something a little more extravagent then these hotels looked lovely and a bit more upmarket. In terms of the food, it was really the standard hotel food - not amazing but equally not bad. These other two hotels close by would probably have a lot nicer food with them being 5*. But to be honest, I didn't go for the food or the hotel experience, I went more to travel around and see different places and so I saw the hotel as more of a base.

Things that I did whilst I was in Croatia include biking around the nearby parks; wandering around the old town of Rovinj; a lot of sunbathing as the weather was lovely; as well as obviously visiting the Plitvice Lakes and Venice. There were other trips that could be done, however, I wanted a balance between spending time relaxing as well as travelling to see different things.

Lavender shop in Rovinj (Grisia)

You will see a selection of photographs labelled 'Grisia'. This is the name of a narrow street in Rovinj, and is also known as being a one-day art exhibition on the second Sunday of August. I loved this street, as it has such a wide range of shops as you'll see from the photo's, and there is artwork all the way along the street. It is a very narrow and steep street, therefore it is quite a bit of effort getting up there! It leads up to the St. Euphemia church which you'll see on the first photograph.

One thing that I did whilst in the centre of Rovinj, was climb up St. Euphemia church, and as you can see the views were stunning (pictured below). Although the steps were pretty scary to climb, it was worth it in the end to get this view of Rovinj and the surrounding area's.

I have to say that Croatia is one of the most beautiful countries that I've visited, so I'll definitely be back visit some more area's, specifically Dubrovnik as I was too far away from here to visit it. I hope you enjoy the photographs :)
